If I returned, FM2007 would be too easy
IMO. Once you've played a couple of games you know how to beat the bigger teams, what formations work best against (for example) Liverpool's 4-2-3-1, which took me ages to crack.
2008 needs more attention to detail on behalf of the user, but is ridiculously slow on PCs under 2GB (like my old one), which is my only real gripe with it. Personally, I got impatient a) waiting for processing to complete, and then b) tweaking tactics. It can take a long time, but
IMO the extra effort makes it better than 07. Just takes 3 times longer to get through a season successfully.
The unrealistic shots on target vs goals is just a statistic and plenty of people have got round the losing games aspect of the bug, myself included. Okay, I haven’t been down in the Blue Square but I’ve been as low as League 1, lost quite a few but worked it out eventually. Now I’m challenging for the
Prem within 5 seasons. Others here HAVE been successful with lower league teams so it can be done.
If you want a game where you cobble together the best players, set up a tactic that works “every” time, enabling you to just pick the team, sit back and watch the highlights, then previous FM incarnations do that. FM08 works the brain nearly every game, and for me that makes it a better product – despite the obvious flaws (board confidence, transfers, the afore-mentioned shots-to-goal).
I really hope that someone brings out an FM07 Weegie for next year’s transfers so those going back can continue to win easily.
I genuinely hope FM09 does not get “easier”, but simply sorts out the minor quibbles that so many are taking a bit too personally.
