Default Finding it extremely hard to score

I am playing as arsenal and I patched my game recently and I think it was since then, although it might have been happening before, I haven't been able to score many goals despite having most of the possession and heaps of chances. The less good teams always seem to draw with me despite having only 2 or 3 shots. Some examples: 1:1 middlesborough (h) 17 shots 55% possession they had 2 shots
1:1 west ham (a) 60%, 22 shots (11 on target) they had 3 shots
I had 26 shots against newcastle, they had 5, yet the score was 2:2. These were my last 3 EPL matches.

I am sorry if this problem has been documented and has started to be fixed, but it did only appear to start after I patched the game. However if it is something I am doing, does anyone have any suggestions to help me?
Thank you

unfortunately it is a problem with the patch. I hope SI are working on it for the next patch.

You'll soon get flamed by blind FM-diehards who shout "it's your tactics!".

Although there is an issue with regards to the amount of one on ones created, the tactics of the threadstarter may be partly to blame also and I will explain why I think so.

Playing as Arsenal, I would assume that he is adopting a very attacking approach. The "less good teams" will expect this and generally play a very defensive, long-ball, counter attacking game in order to stifle the attack. Essentially they put up a 10-man defense trying to play for a draw.

In these circumstances, I find it is best to play a patient game and draw the opposition players out of their defensive blockade in order to create space for the midfielders to run into.

By pursuing a very-attacking mentality under these circumstances you would be playing into the hands of the inferior team as that is exactly what their tactics are set up expecting. What then happens is that a large number of players get caught out of position and the weaker team catch you on the break which is exactly what they have set their tactics up to do.

Well i think the ME is to blame and i will explain why.

It is correct that you say that smaller teams will more defend. But That doesn't influence a goal chanche. I mean, as soon as you have you created your chanche, it doens't matter much if you are playing a weak or a good team.
This is very obvious from his statistics. He only scores on an average of 1/15 and the opponent 1/3.
If the explaination you said ic correct, it doesn't explain why you need more chanches against the opponent.
I agree that against a smaller team it is harder to create a chanche, but once it is created, it shouldn't matter.

The thing is, it completely depends upon the quality of the chance. A 35-yard hit and hope shot and a close-range tap-in are two completely different things. In this kind of encounter a lot of goalscoring opportunities would be rushed due to the compact nature of the opposition defense or taken as pot-shots from long range trying to avoid the crowd and make something happen.

I'm not doubting that the match engine has issues (to be honest I think there are a lot of areas of the game that are in need of some major work) but in these kind of games, if the tactical setups were as I described, even if the match engine was sensibly fixed the outcome should pretty much remain the same.

How the match engine is handling this scenario and displaying it is, in my opinion, the problem and not the actual scorelines (if indeed the original poster was playing as I described which would be interesting to know).

You're both right.

The match engine is tedious in that it rewards you with chances by playing on the final third of the pitch, but you rarely score.

If you design your tactics around creating passing lanes, rather than chances, you'll find your team as a whole works together and scores more often when they have the opportunity.

This is a far cry from previous versions where a dominating attack was enough to school your opponents. I personally think the match engine is ridiculous, but the ideas behind it are far more realistic than before.

Head on over to the Tactics & Training forum.

There's alot of good threads & debates at the moment, alot of different tactics to try, that may help you out.

The shot's to goals "bug" has only reared it's head once or twice for me over many saves. I don't deny it exists but I think the tactics I employ pretty much cancels it out.

Alot of people are doing fine with different tactics. So have a read through the thread, try a few different things and see how you go.

although i set attacking mentality quite high, i focus on defence more. i also haven't scored that much, i only seem to get 3+ goals against the other big teams, i've scored (no more than) 5 on just 3 occasions.

remember, if you are only playing 2 up front, there are 8 other players who can score goals. i do 1 training schedule for my arsenal team, most people don't, so i would suggest putting at least mid-medium shooting practice for you central midfielders.
