I seem to be having a continually annoying problem. Most of the times my strikers have a chance to run at the goalie, they decide heading for the cornerflag is the best option
It is extremely annoying to see that your team has been able to let your striker loose from the middle of the field, see him bearing down on the goal letting everybody watch his heels, and then just as he approaches the box and you feel your heartbeat rise as surely this is going to be a goal ... your striker decides to round the keeper by going for the sideline. The keeper of course doesn't mind, as he is still standing close to his goalline most of the time.
Have tried various settings. Closing down, long shots, forward rus, run with ball. Nothing seems to help.
So the question is: How do I get my strikers to go for goal? Either by tactic or by training them. I don't really mind if they strike the ball from 20 yards, I just can't take them heading for the sideline any more
Check your timewasting and the individual mentality of each striker. Too high timewasting will cause this, as will too low a mentality, possibly. Check your team mentality too.
However, sometimes they run there because it is actually the only place to go, particularly if they have poor ball control or the conditions are bad.
Your other option is to turn off "run with ball" and hope that gets them to hit the ball more often. Maybe a quicker tempo?
Time wasting = rarely, Mentality = Attacking, Team mentality = attacking. Dribbling and balance is good 14+. Tempo is set to slow, so maybe that is it. But as I have 5 players in front of the midline I don't want them loosing the ball by playing too quickly. Guess I'll have to settle for 1-2 goals a match and just close my eyes when they are clear on the goal
