It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Passing

Evening all. Having now sorted out the defence of the mighty Torquay United (4 Clean sheets ina row!) I have a real problem with my passing.

The team are in no way able to play a short passing game, so it only seems right that I ask them to play direct and to the flanks. This is however where the trouble starts, every pass is an aimless punt towards the corner flag. I've now got all my players, and the team mentality on normal, thinking that they might be too far apart, hasnn't helped. Next I've taken the farrows off the wingers, in the hope that they'll come closer to the full backs to take a shorter pass. Hasn't helped.

This is causing many problems, as three of the last four games have been 0-0, cos all the passes are just flying out for goal kicks.

Any suggestions??

If your still in the lower leagues then short passing can work very good. Because the opossition don't have good players either, so you don't need top end stats for it to work.

You sure its still direct passing and asn't gone long? try a less direct passing on the slider, one more nearer 'normal'.

It's not too long Cleon. I've been playing it around 12 or so. I've kept the tempo at 12 now and reduced the passing to 8, so I'll see how that works and post an update later

Remember that you need to keep consistency between tempo and passing style. 12 and 8 may be a bit far apart.

You don't have too, 1 for passing and 18 for tempo can work just as good as 10 and 10 for each.

Hmmm...that would seem to contradict the "tips" that keep flashing up on my screen, as well as some of the comments in the TT&F thread.

The tips are more aimed at beginners

As for the TT&F thread, I dunno why they would suggest it wouldn't work.

I don't think anyone specifically said it wouldn't work, but I believe passing and tempo are mostly treated as needing to be consistent with one another.

I understand that the tips are aimed at beginners, but why would they say something that isn't true? Either there is an advantage to be gained by keeping tempo and passing style consistent or there isn't.

No one as said its not true, it is in 1 sense but not in another. If your a beginner then yes its advised to keep the 2 simliar, but this is not a rule.

Have 2 total different settings is more for the advanced users who know what problems it brings and how to deal with them.
