While trying out various tactics I decided to try something out I saw while watching Brazilian football a few years back. I was expecting to get stuffed using this but have had some surprising results.
In affect it is a 4-4-2 formation although it lines up as a narrow 2-2-2-2-2.
It worked with practically the front 6 given free roles but still played with a certain amout of discipline. The limitations of the set up and lack of intellegence of your players make it impossible to recreate the formation as it is meant to be played.
The 2 DMC are effectively your CB and both need to be quick. The defensive line is set to deep and closing down set toown area this allows the DMC to hold up attacks through the centre as the back 4 drops into position. Attacks down the flanks you would expect to be the main weakness of this formation but the shape of the team as they drop into the defensive formation is effective in slowing and breaking up fast attacks by the AI allowing you time to get cover at the back.
Going forward there is still width provided by both the 2 strikers as well as the 2 MC and on occasion the 2 AMC both with high creative freedom.
There have been goals from all over the pitch so far using it and for some strange reason my freekicks have started hitting the net far more often without taking deflections probably just a coincidence though.
Now I am certain this tactic will not work with poor teams and players but with the right players I have found it to be quite effective. Out of 20 games played so far with Manchester United I have won 17 drawn 2 and lost 1 only conceeding more than 1 goal in the only defeat (2-0 Vs Arsenal), at the other end of the pitch I have scored a total of 68 goals in those 20 games.
It still needs work and I am working on a few different versions of the same idea which may be more affective, it is never going to be some super tactic but it does get your team playing attractive football.
Would love to know if anybody else who uses it has similar success or I have just been getting lucky with a bad tactic.

so far seems to work well
I didn't really put great detail about it there since i had the download link. I think you would get hammered if you don't use man marking though against a good team at least anyway. similar without the deep defensive line and little closing down to allow you to drop into formation as the opposition build attacks. If you go charging around closing down early there will be no shape and you will easily get picked off.
