There was a game, several years ago, involving one of the Auld Firm (I think it was Celtic playing Hibs)

The other Team was 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go when the Ref abandoned it owing to the thick fog that had come down.

The game was replayed and Celtic (?) won 4-1.

Still nothing to the "phantom goal" in the German Bundesliga almost 10 years ago...

It was the match between Bayern and Nuremburg in April of 1994. 24th minute: corner for Bayern. The ball gets to Thomas Helmer who is surprised and doesn't quite hit it. He misses the goal cleanly and can't believe his misfortune. Everybody is surprised why the Bayern players are cheering - the ref has given a goal.

The game ended 2-1 for Bayern and had to be repeated later in the season after everybody was just all over the ref for the most blatant mistake ever. Bayern wins the re-match 5-0 and Nuremburg ends up relegating on goal difference.

Amen.

Couldn't have said it better, Dale

So - complaining can get you relegated.

In the league I play in in the summer once, a couple of years before I started playing, the league leaders came to our village and in the first half get a corner. The ball is swung in and one of their players heads it just under the crossbar and out of a hole where the net hadnt been tied up. The ref gave a goal kick. Obviously the whole team went crazy but the ref didn't budge.

It wasn't important in the end, they won 8-0.

I'm pretty sure that teams have the option of appeal in cases of stupidity, or that the FA can at anytime overrule an official. Usually that's stated in the FA's laws.

We see the overrules happen in the event of yellow and red cards that weren't the correct decisions by video review now, for instance.

Thinking of all those incidents it makes me a bit sad that stupidity is almost completely ruled out in CM. Personally I'd love it to lose games just because I put 4 foreigners in the squad when only 3 were allowed. (Leeds vs Stuttgart anyone?)

The irony being that player came on as a sub near the end, and barely touched the ball...

-----------

The result overshadowed the incident, but I was at Manchester United v Fulham recently in the Premiership, and United's South African left back was booked for coming on as a sub, without telling anyone. He came on at half-time, but you still have to come on (with the usual 4th official showing the board) at the start of the 2nd half, and he didn't. The ref only realised 5-10 minutes into the 2nd half.
