Ah, I see. That is a big step up indeed. Incidentely, these two issues are related: the faster you can make your way up the less prepared you'll be once you get there. Which is why the EPL isn't all that bad because in my experience it takes a few seasons in Div1 before you make it there, and by then you'll have a competetive team.
2nd page on a thread I didn't think lasts 5 posts \o/

Portugal can be pretty easy. There are only 2-3 decent teams in each of the 2B Divisions. And although there's only 1 promotion spot, much like the Conference used to be, once you manage to go up it's not too difficult to go up once again. Of course, then you're in the Superleague and probably getting massacred every week.

I think what Iaj said originally was about right. I usually find it takes 3-4 seasons to win the Conference, always seem to go up from the 3rd first time, then a couple for the others, usually three for Div.1. Certainly never made it all the way up in less than 7 seasons, and no more than 12. http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...ty/drink.gifis the smiley you're looking for, by the way. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I would agree with that (at least in 01/02) although I only ever got as high as the 1st division - kept missing promotion.
I agree also that after getting out of the Conference division 3 is a bit of a coast. I don't know if the implication to be drawn is that Div 3 is not of much different standard to the conference....

What do you reckon the biggest step-up is, alki? 2-1 or 1-EPL?
I know the hardest I ever experienced was Bundesliga 2. to Bundesliga 1.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
The only time I did that it was with HSV and 150M Euros, so we did alright. I've just taken over St. Pauli some 15 years on in the same game and we're looking for promotion. I expect 1. Bundesliga will be rather more difficult with them.
The toughest leap I've found is stepping into the Brazilian first division after fluking promotion. That was ugly.
Generally, once you get the first promotion (from whatever lower division), I find the second one comes fairly easily.

Division 3 is pretty easy after winning the Conference. The standard of play is almost the same and there is quadruple/double (depending on version played) the promotion places.
Once you get that next promotion, that's when the work really starts.
Reflects real life I think also. IIRC Boston have been the only team promoted from the Conference to have struggled in their first season.
