Skonto is infamous around these parts
Default SWCT/SYB Interpretation

Firstly, I am not questioning this rule so don't flame me. It is just a question of interpretation.

OK, some background. I am playing a game on medium database (bleeding hard finding much with those useless scouts). Leagues enabled (all divisions) - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy.

I am playing in England and using SWYCT which in my lowly position means simply Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland plus of course England.

Now, as I said I am suffering from real problems in finding decent players. It has occurred to me, that in real life instead of dispatching my scout to the extreme regions of Scotland or Ireland it would be cheaper to lob him on the Eurostar with an economy ticket and get him to hoof round France for a couple of weeks.

It is bloody tempting in the circumstances but I have held off doing that as it seems like the slippery slope to me. So, my question is - if playing in England would anybody else consider scouting in France to be in violation of SYB? (my suspicion is it does violate but I just wonder how everybody else chooses to interpret this)

Good replies and a welcome perspective. Put it that way and the economics do seem to be a bit dodgy (unless your scout has a benevolent aunt on the cote d'Azur).

Message taken on board and no scouting France it is.

Why bother, this discussion will pop up once every couple of months anyway. Let iajafer make the final statement as soon as he can be bothered.

errr. I did. However, I found quite a few threads. I even looked at some of them surprisingly enough. However, I did not find one that addressed the particular question that I asked.

Yep. I can see that now and I find the argument very persuasive that, strictly, there is even no point in scouting overseas when in the lower divisions due to the logistical problems of persuading some poor schmuck to join my bunch of losers.

Where I came into this was that I am playing a club in the South of England and it would be quicker and cheaper to send him to Paris rather than to the far north of Scotland. But, I think the financial/organisation difficulties would put such an approach beyong most clubs. So, SWCT remains intact for me.

memo to scouts :

OK, you useless *******s. The foreign jolly is now off the radar screen so get back in the beat up mini and hit the M1.
