Can't you put him in the reserves and pick him for a match? I have no idea whether that works, but it is worth a try.

Coaches don't give reports on players who are on trial anymore anyway. Nor do physios.

I know in CM4 that by EP5 it did work. Since in 03/04 no-one wants to join on trial or otherwise, I can't comment there but if it doesn't, it's another great step backwards.

Not the rule in all leagues though (eg. scottish).

I used to enjoy those posts the best.
I can't help thinking how much more fun the game can be if you use old "Roy of the Rovers" names such as
"Hotshot" Hamish Balfour ,
Kevin "Mighty" Mouse or
Billy "god knows what his surname was but he had smelly, tackety" Boots
