I was going to agree with Mkus and Quinn, but when I think about it I always start with the same name and nationality (both false)and same date of birth (true) and I think of my alter-ego as a jobbing Lower league manager temporarily out of a job.
I also try to start with a team that has no current manager, so that I can assume that they were just waiting for my application, which of course limits my options.

It depends very much on my nationality, the league, city, and club I'm playing in, and the other leagues running. But I definitely have a full background. To me this game is very much a directed story, and you can't have stories without characters, background, and drama. Since the game doesn't provide details, my imagination does the rest.

I am a 35 yo Slovenian, always ment to be football antitalent. Used to play in a Slovenian LLM club, but tripped on a ball too much, therefor I lost all my teeth. This made me swap my training shoes for prosthesis, since I couldn't afford it in any other way. Therefor I had to forget about football for a while and I learned to be a shoemaker (what an Irony ). But middle age crisis at 35 put me back and I am cruising countries and helping those poor LLM teams to fail or succeed.

Oh, yeah, I do a lot of commentary myself too

He may be an ex-player in your version, but not for all.
