Ok, treading dangerously close to the edge here, but in a previous incarnation as a football witch-doctor (aka pysio for the camerounian lions) i had visions about the panatheon of the CM gods, which included such dieties as the mountainous Icelandic god of the ForwardLeft and his unusual P; or the Egyptian god of the crossing, blessed be his left foot.
And in my current incarnation as a Llama (talk about downgrading!) sometimes i'd just, you know, randomly come across them, and discreetly take a peek at their value.
And just because nobody was really paying attention, i kind of slipped their club's manager a paper asking for an enquiry. And this manager wrote on a napkin a sum, which was not greater than 10'000.
And I knew that this could be the begining of a legend that bards would sing about for years to come (or, more probably, some football journalist will write about when there's no interesting first division action).
The logic of the "scout only" agument perplexes me. If my scouts comes back and say there's this player who for the greater good of mankind should never go near a football, and who i once, in a previous incarnation, had in my team and I know perfectly well he's a goalscoring machine or whatever, I should take my scouts advice and look elsewhere for a signing?
Thats frankly ridiculous.
So lets continue discussing principles, and allow me to put forth my approach to managing lower league teams: i mainly judge players by looking at their stats [not attributes]. If he scored 28 goals in 33 appearances in the previous season with a 7.80 rating, i don't care if he played in the portuguese fourth division, he's most probably worth it.
However, as i am perfectly aware of the most holy LLM codex, may it stand a thousand years, i dutifuly send my scouts along to look at them.
I hope this nonetheless meets with the requirements of the most exhulted company of LLamas?

Stats are not necessarily reliable guides for LL players. IRL plenty of players have outstanding records at LL level but haven't been able to cut it at the top.
A player may have good stats because he is playing in a good team - an average striker playing for the best LL side is likely to score far more than a better striker playing for the worst side in the league.
The point being that it would be madness to sign a player on stats alone and not to have a look at him first.

true, true, although its not necesarrily a huge leap, one LL side from one country to another llm side in another. In spain i bought a mexican llm striker who almost singlehandedly took me to the first division. As i'm not supposed to be able to scout him i signed him only on the basis of his stats.
And any LLM manager has access to stats of players from around the world! We may be poor, there may only be 5000 seats, I do make a 500,000 loss every seasons, but we do have internet connection!
But EssexMan: "ochre card for posting sonnets on LLM"? Is this the moderator's idea of poetic justice?

What is the real life equivalent of this exactly? Signing a player who you had heard gossip about but never actually seen play? From a different continent? At a lower league level? Pah!
