Hello all,

Wonder if any one can help me with my game. I am playing as Newcastle in my 2nd season. After performing well above expectations last year I think I may have doomed my team.

I finished 3rd in the Prem after sitting 16th for most, if not all of the first half of my first season. Somehow miraculously I turned it around and went on some mad winning spree of something like 15 games, then a couple of draws then back to winning and drawing. I managed to finish the second half of the season only losing to Man Utd who won the league and Chelsea 2nd.

Anyway....my problem is, I now cant seem to get any consistency from my players. I will win a game 3 - 0 at home with my tactics from the first season with something like 23 shots (I'm not one to change a winning formula so dont completely change my tactics/team for when I play away) but when away I lose 1 - 0 / 2 - 0 with my team having somethiing like 5 shots.

I know from previous games that a team finishing high up will often play teams who regard them as a threat and hence park the bus infront of goal, but not being able to create chances away from home is getting a bit annoying.

I have tried to play a more defensive tactic away from home with a counter attack but this doesn't seem to have any affect.

Is there anyone who has a solution or idea that might be able to help. I've tried calling Sir Alex but he is engaged!!

No simple answer to this. Have a look through the Tactics forum and read some of the established threads in there. It'll give you a few pointers at least.

Tbh Newcastle have underachieved for years, IMO. Too many players in the comfort zone who need a good hard kick in the rear.

You need to have a look at what the opposition are doing compared to what they have done against other teams. For example look at their last 5 home games, then look at their games that season against other top-half/top 5 sides, depending on where you are in the league.
If they go 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 attacking (or 4-3-3 as some call it) against most sides, but are 5-3-2 or 4-5-1 defensive against top teams and/or you, then you have to think of ways to defeat their tactics from there.
If you have time, you could always look at all of the default tactics and work from there. Not really what RL managers would do - most sides go between 2-3 tactics at most in a season, so players know just what they are about and feel comfy, confident, etc - but FM treats tactics the same way old-time bank robbers treated safes: keep rotating until you get the right combination.

Be aware as well you might have 'lost' one or two of the players. Best ship them out before you end up losing the entire dressing room.
