Are Newcastle the hardest team to manage in the Prem?? The team is rubbish and no matter how hard I try to turn them into a good team, it never works! Got relegated the first time i tried managin them....new game...just avoided relagation in the first season and hadnt won a game 10 games into the second season! My coaching was at full stars for all and the team on paper was good...why is it so hard! Has anyone else found the problem?
I'd say on the face of it there are many Premier League teams harder to manage than Newcastle - Derby, Fulham, Bolton, Birmingham, Wigan, Reading, Middlesbrough. Simply because the teams listed above have neither the money or some of the players Newcastle have on FM.
Admittedly I've never played with any of those teams on FM08, but I'd imagine all of them are harder to manage than Newcastle, unless the board expectations are very realistic and you get sacked for underachieving on a regular basis
I managed Wigan before and took them to Europe....with very little money. It gets harder as money is tight with Newcastle and in my game you hade teams like Portsmouth spending €50+ mill a season...including €41mill on Theo Walcott!
I came second with Newcastle first season. They ahd plenty of money to spend and plenty of good players e.g. Given, Taylor, Emre, Duff, Milner, Smith, Owen and Martins.
Owen and Martins alone are worth well over 30 a season in game and if you think it requires strengthening sell Martins for £15m and bring in a whole host of new faces.
Only problem is they expect you to win the league within the 2 year plan, but I still managed it
I played a couple of disastrous games before my present Newcastle save. Finished 3rd in first season thanks largely due to Owen's 36 goals! Board then accepted a £17mil bid, arrgh...
Martins has stepped into the breach 2nd season, 32 I think with 6 games to play. I reached the quarter finals of Champs League and still in the fight for 3rd/4th.
Don't set your season's expectations too high, no matter how tempting the extra funds are.
Maybe this should be for a seperate thread but I have begun to question the effect of individual players tactics. A friend never tweaked these, most being set to 'team' and did a lot better than I, I decided to follow suit this save, making far less individual changes and results have improved. Maybe coincidence but if individual instructions are important I would have expected the opposite to be true.

maybe your tactics dont suit the players that are already there
I've had no problems managing Newcastle, i've come 6th, 2nd and 3rd in my three years at the club (which started as a new game) and won the FA cup in the third year, my advice would be to offer Owen and Martins new contracts straight away to get rid of there minimum fee realease clauses.
