hi,

just a quick one on if the offside trap is the way to go -
1. do many of you people use it in your team and does it work?
2. what type of stats are the best for using this tactic?

I used it quite a lot in my first season in L2 because I had pacey full-backs who had good mental attributes (relatively speaking). It worked quite well, but it depends on what system you play and what attributes your players have. It's probably best utilised against fast strikers who will probably just waltz past your defenders anyway. The danger is that your defence steps up and leaves your goalie 1-on-1 with the striker onside.

I don't use it any more - it's not worth the risk unless you have a defence specifically geared to use the tactic, and it can go so spectacularly wrong.

I suppose it's the same with any tactic though; they all have pros and cons, otherwise every team would play the same system.

I tend to see what my players' strengths are and gear my formation/tactics to that, not force players to cope with a system I think is best, especially if you're managing lower league teams and don't have the luxury of a big budget and top-class players.

It works best against pacey strikers and also when using a high defensive line. Make sure you don't rotate your back four to gain a better understanding of pushing out together.
