almost every goal i concede is where the AI has a massive scramble in front of my goal. Every time the commentry says how the ball deflected off someone but it always either deflects straight in to the goal or into someones path who then has an open goal! They also get an extraordinary amount of goals from rebounds from these massive scrambles.
Does anyone have any tips for preventing these pile ups seeing as this is just about the only way i ever concede.
many thanks

How can i stop conceding goals from scrambles? Post #2
my defensive line is at about 12 and my defenders instructions follow Asmodeus's slider apathy theory and so closing down, mentality and creative freedom are all at 5. passing style is team (5).
All the forward runs and long shots etc are at rarely.
Finally, their tackling is at normal (not sure what difference this would make)
hope this makes things clearer

I've conceded a fair few this season like this. In many cases it's been due to the sheer ineptitude of certain players. My goalkeeper's gone for the impossible ball, left the goal empty and a scramble ensues. Or my winger who's decided to help out the defence completely botches his clearance or, even better, decides it's best to pass the ball to the centre back on the edge of the goal area while El Haj Diouf is about to jump on him.
I haven't found a solution, save removing the usual suspects by substituting or dropping them. Usually in these situations the commentary identifies somebody to be at fault. Make a mental note and drop repeat offenders.
In other situations you just have to say "**** happens". I originally thought it could be defensive line issue, but yours is much higher than mine and you still experience it. I think the only way to do it is to stop the balls coming in in the first place by dealing with the opposition wingers and midfielders taking pot-shots from 30 yards. A bit of opposition instruction fiddling and perhaps a touch more closing down or a touch more tempo?

could be your width...if its fairly narrow you get more players in the box and with your line so high players get in behind on the wings and cross it in leaving a scramble with their attackers probably anticipating it a little more and getting the jump on your defenders...try barrows on the full backs...im guessing you dont have trouble scoring by this post...so, simply play more defensive after you score

Set your defenders passing to very direct, so they hoof it out instead of trying to play their way out of trouble if this is a persisting problem. It may lose possession, but allows your team to re-form and gain their composure, so they could win it back in the midfield.

i was just suggesting that it could be too narrow...it could be that your too wide and not restricting play enough while also not having enough players to help out in the box ...its a tricky game...using 1 tactic all the way through just wont work as itseems the slightest change in fm07 can have dramatic effects

as an example i found zeniths post on his 4-3-3 template and decided to use it with my spurs side...was working great at the beggining winning or drawing all the games...then i met sheff utd about 3rd game of the season, an easy win surely...lost 3-0!!! so changed my tactics up slightly and each time improved with losses along the way...kept chelsea to 2-0 loss and liverpool to 1-0 loss where you still stand a chance (seen 7-0 scorelines on here) but then beat man utd 4-2 and find myself 4th in the league with a game in hand and one of the best for and against ratios in the league...saying all this i still never learn and trying to be more attacking lost 3-2 to portsmouth. i got the 1st goal and thought i could get another and kept basically the same tactic with a high d/line, passing through the middle (crucial to pass down wings if you wanna defend a lead) kept giving the ball away and b4 you know it i was 3-1 down at the end of the half...got one back but lost with silly decisions...if your lacking this game WILL punish you
