im currently experimenting with the counter attack option and have concluded that it seems to create unecessary pressure on your team...in my opinion the counter attack option instructs your players to allow the opposition posession in order to bring up their back line and try to launch a ball in behind...im currently using a tactic without the counter attack ticked while instructing slightly less cd in the midfield than you would while attacking. this seems to create the midfield to sit back but still continue to press the opposition...with this im using a more direct passing style and a quick tempo...this seems to have the desired effect with the team pressing the opposition more while still launching the ball upfield when they gain posession...im unsure as to whether the counter attack option instructs the passing to be aimed at vital players while my tactic might be slightly more aimless, im still undecided on that fact...any ideas/opinions?

How is it uneccasary pressure? In order for counter attack to work you have to invite the opposition onto you, or it becomes redundant.

No it doesn't, that is the mentality that decides that and not counter attack. Counter attack just means when you dispossess the oposition you just look to get forward at every opportunity and commit men forward.

Its the option of moving the ball forward at fast as possible, so its more prone to passing forward balls.
ok...thanks for giving me more understanding on how the game uses the counter attack. as i said i was pretty unsure ...but it does confirm some of my beliefs...counter attack does increase the pressure onto your team to try and get the other team out but my tactic works just as well but pressures their players slightly more limiting (imo,to quite an extreme) the countless opportunities they seem to get when employing counter attack...like i said, my passing might be slightly more aimless (still unsure if counter attack makes it any more accurate) but with the ball up the pitch and a quick striker you always stand a chance
seriously guys this is really working wonders for me...i think the counter attack option is slightly flawed
in theory counter attacking works by surrendering posession to draw the opposition further out to create more space behind the defence to lob a ball through...however in real life you have real people with free will who can try to get a tackle in if they feel right and this is where i think the counter attack option falls a bit flat...as with all computer programmes you need to give strict instructions for it to work properly and this gives up TOO MUCH posession imo allowing the opposition far more chances than i feel happy about...with the box unticked and a slightly more defensive format (very in defense) and slightly less closing down (minimal in defence) your still able to draw the opposition out but make it harder for them to pick out chances...also, using a more direct style of passing on a quick tempo will still get the ball upfield as quick as possible...i feel alot happier this way...btw, i use 4-1-2-2-1 formation which natuarally constricts the centre of the pitch
Counter-attack is great for exploding at the opposition when they're at their most vulnerable. If you feel you're giving away too much possession, then you need to use the other sliders to perhaps tame some of CA's negative effects. For example: raise mentality to have your player a litte further up the pitch and a little more ready to spring an attack; raise tempo to force your players to get after the ball quicker and use it quicker; raise closing down for pretty much the same reasons; raise your defensive line.
As with most things, it's about finding a balence.
millie...thats what i do, apart from i lower the d/line to bring the opposition out and counter attack whatever ever instrustructions you give will naturally sit back...its what its designed to do...i've been tryng out my theory alot recently and its made me soooo much more secure when trying to hold a lead...but like cleon said, CA will also instruct more players to run after your long balls...easily countered though with my formation as i have 2 wide am's on last 2 notches of normal mentality and forward runs often...so i find this works just at well as countering the opposition...but my main concern was giving away too much posession and after many, many painful tests i feel alot happier...just wanted to share with you guys...i've found alot of help on this forum and am now really stating to enjoy the game...its my time now, to give something back
