think i've found some ways to score from set plays:-
corners:-
leave 2 back, 1 flick on at near post, 1 attack near post, 2 on keeper, 1 stand on far post, 1 attack far post, 1 outside area...aim corner to near post...seems to work really well with a smaller player with good jumping and heading on flick at near post...win 90% of headers with hoyte there only 2nd best when defender gets in front...think it works because he gets marked by a small guy coz he's not in the 'mark tall player category' (181cm)
freekicks:-
2 back, 3 best headers mark keeper (maybe more), 1 disrupt wall and rest on forward...cross to 'best header'
used this tactic and scored 5 goals in 4 games...3 against man u!!! bit hit and miss whether the right players get crossed to but you cant argue with those kind of results
As i understand it if you give more than 2 players the same in instructions in set pieces (mark keeper for example) they get confused and sometimes don't follow the instruction.
dayle...i dont disagree with that, im not saying i understand how the game works...but from what i can see from putting more players on mark keeper you run a higher % of someone challenging the keeper on the cross, also ive witnessed, using this tactic, all guys i instructed being right by the goal when you get a freekick near the by line...on one corner hoyte flicked it on and king scrambled it in...ive also been awarded 3 or for penalties (cant remember) using this tactic and i've only used it 4 games...im not saying its perfect and will work everytime but i work on % and it seems to be more rewarding than other set plays i've deployed
keep scoring with this...seems to be about a goal every other game ...i did notice you might waste a couple of shooting chances by passing it to a good header...lol...but, hey! i dont have that great long shots in my team anyway...i also noticed that zokora (or other players) tries to take some free kicks instead of my set piece takers...i do have creative freedom just above middle and zokora in my playmakers...i say this coz i read on the forum that someone else experienced this when using higher cf...also, my pen takers seem to like taking turns...any ideas?
p.s its definately best trying to use a smaller guy with high jumping/heading attributes
king 2 goals in 15 games, 1 assist
dawson 2 goals in 16 games
hoyte 2 goals in 5 games, 2 assist
gardner 1 goal in 3 games, 1 assist
bare in mind all these goals have been score in the past 11-12 matches when i deployed my set piece regime...and, of course, you always stand the chance of scoring from other ways...scored direct from a free kick 30 yrds out when the keeper came out to challenge with everyone missing and the ball nestling in the corner...havent scored with a purposeful shot on goal yet using this tactic, if anyone finds that out i'll be happy to know ...anyway, i play down the wings mainly and so therefore get more free kicks out wide
is no one interested in trying this...i found i got most of my goals in fm06 from set plays but found them hard to come by in this one (think si sussed the guy on the edge of the box thingy...now, they use it!!! balls and badgers!!!) but now i cant stop scoring...its a definate bonus if you have a small guy with good jumping/heading ability on both set plays, but especially on 'near post flick on' at corners...he'll get marked by a smaller guy and win most headers...have 1 big physical player on the keeper (i have 2, dunno what difference it make though), 1 big guy attacking front post (might work with another smaller guy),1 stand on back post (flick ons generally go there if not in the net), 1 attack far post and rest as above...seriously, i cant believe i haven't got any possitive feedback...either people aren't giving it a go, or its just not working for you...let me know

just finished a season with Aston Villa, but despite finishing 8th and winning league cup, i haave struggled to score from set plays. Anythings better than what ive got at the mo!
i'm not having much luck with this davey, im cambridge city in league two. I don't have many players with a heading attribute over 10 and they're all tall players. I thought it'd be alright but no goals from set plays so far, 9 games into the new season so far. Any suggestions?
