Hi everyone,
I use this tactic with Barca and it's worked very good. I've won the league, but I had a big loss (5:0!!!) against Chelsea in the First round in the Champions League.
At the beginning of the season, I used counter attack with direct passing and quick tempo, but I've got so many chances and so little goals. So I've changed it to short passing and sloe tempo. It worked pretty fine at the beginning (Eto'o was wonderfull), but then Chelsea came...
and I've lost also to Betis in the local cup.
The good in this season was winning the league in 8 pts more then Real.

I used it at Arsenal, and with a slight mentality tweak, carried on using it at Juventus (who had finished 11th despite being CL runners up after knocking ME out int he semis with an offside goal in the 89th minute :-p), and have been very successfull at both clubs...
Well, very successful at Arsenal with 3 titles and 3 CL's in 4 seasons, A world cupw ith England, and top of Serie A with 10 games to go with Juventus, predicted 7th.
I try to play Arsenal football for the most part, and counter attacking with low tempo sort of acheives this.

Having midfielders who are good at Decisions, Composure, First Touch and Passing would benefit this also.

If anyone bothered, I played three pre season matches against welling and barnet and drawn against swindon with s****horpe at the moment with slow tempo and counter attack, unfortunetly games crashed and i didn't save so i couldn't carry on testing it a with a lower league team

Part of the reason I'm on here is because of this tactic.
I'm playing as Darlington and after four months I am currently 14th in the league. I've drawn against the top teams whereas I lose the middle of the road games 1-0 or draw 0-0. However, in the cups I've beaten Hull 3-2, had Huddesfield scrape a 2-2 draw with me, battered Crewe 4-1, and beaten Tranmere 2-1 at their ground.
I don't know whether the problem lies with my tactics or motivation. The only thing I can think of is that when playing bigger teams, my team naturally is forced back, which brings successful counter attacks into play, whereas the lesser teams a bit more cautious.
Then again it could be lack of strength in midfield. The tactic worked well for me as Middlesbrough, but then they have a more rounded squad that Darlington. I'll use some of the counter attack tips on the other thread and report back.

I think using this tactic works better for the bigger teams in a certain division, e.g. it would work better for someone like man u or arsenal than someone like fulham in the premiership,
but if you tried it with a lower league club, someone like swindon or forest who are probably one of biggest teams in their divisions then still work,
To use this tactic successfully i reckon it should only be employed for teams who are chasing the title or promotion

I take back what i should about it only working with teams who will challenge for the title or promotion, It could work with any team, I'm just saying i feel that it works better for teams who challenge for the title then relagation favourites

IMHO one of the main benefits of this style is that if there is a counter on your team go for it. If not however they will play the patient game. I think one of the most important stats is decisions which should be high throughout the team.
