Hello all, I have decided to put my most commonly used tactical system up on the forum in the hope that others will offer their views into what they think I am doing right and doing wrong. I have had some success with this system in the past but it has been limited success. I felt that by putting it up on here for more experienced players to analyse, I might have a chance of improving it. I wanted to do this before I start my new game. Well here goes:
Formation: Flat 4-4-2 (wingers with medium farrows)
Creative Freedom; Mid-point on global (less for defence and MC(d))
Width: 8
Focus Passing: Mixed
Tackling: Normal
Mentalities: GK - 6 CB - 7 FB - 8 MC - 9 MR&L - 10 ST(tm) - 11 ST - 12
Forward Runs: GK - Rarely CB - Rarely FB - Mixed at home, rarely away MC(d) - Rarely MC (a) - Mixed MR&L - Often ST - Rarely for TM, Mixed for other ST
Run With Ball: Wingers only on often
Crossing from: Mixed for wingers, deep for full backs
Tight Marking: Yes (No for Strikers)
Use Target Man: Yes
Counter Attack: Undecided
Starting my next game with Sheffield United. Please tell me what you think.
Hey mate - strikers can be on higher closing down - that forces errors from the AI back 4 and sometimes even the keeper.
For creative freedom I'd give everyone low and then pick your 3 or 4 players that have the best creativity and decisions and give them more... playmaker type players.
I'd use counter attack for your away tactic... but not so much at home unless you are up against a good side. Counter attacking works well when you have a deeper D-line and are inviting players onto you... they are coming forward and that is when counter attacking works best.
Thanks for the advice pal I will bear it in mind. Another thing you could help me with is, do you think those mentalities are high enough for home? and do you think I should lower them for away?
looks good to me bud. i always prefer to play with a dmc, so probably use a diamond one of the mc's slightly more defensive, but thats personal taste. i think any main criticism of a tactic would be based around the mentality and other general points. your's all look like you've followed the methods posted here very well and all looks tight to me i'd maybe change a few things to suit my personal style, but cant find any real errors at all. nice work ...maybe you could have the mc's pressing the opposition slightly more at home
I play with a flat 442 at da moment, so I would say reduce ur closing down on ur MC's as it can lead the AI to play passes around them and exposing ur defence. The wingers can close often, so 15-17 is OK.
I've been experimenting with having my back four on same mentality, it seems to keep them real tight knit.

Me personally - I would have higher mentalities for home since you don't want to be as defensive there and are expected to try to dominate. Your current mentalities are probably ok for away games though...
