I ask this because it seems to be the most constant mistake I have found. It seems that the AI also has the same problem so its not a big deal as far as costing games. It looks as though my players are waiting for someone to get in front of them before they cross, reguardless of situation. You can have a winger fly dwn the flank with time to make a coffee but he simply does not cross the ball, he waits and waits and runs and runs until the free man in the middle is covered or he has his cross blocked and corner it is. This is totally unrealistic. If there is one part of a wingers game that he will succeed more often than not its crosses..escpecially when unmarked.
I know this is only going to be jumped on by some expert that says that they have never seen this. So I would like ask those people what is it that they are doing. Cause i'm doing just about everything my 25 yrs of football experience tells me to do. And over ten yrs with this series from CM2. Now as i have said in the past this type of programming would be insanely difficult. But all in all you should have noticed these things. And this all ties hand in hand to the ridiculous ability of AI defenders to clear thier lines with unbelievable headers and tackles. Most of the time totally belying thier abilty.
Put simply as i can. I believe this all goes back to the whole attribute problem. I would really love to see them mean something again.. Not just for the AI. But god damn i love this game..otherwise i wouldnt care and just wouldnt play it ever again..I feel its crucially important that we as a community get our feelings and wishes out into an open forum..Would love to get some feedback on this guys. Good or bad..just make sure its constructive.. TY again for the game
have a look at you settings for wingers. I generally have my wingers set to forward runs "often" and run with ball "mixed" and i get plenty of crosses.
Also try upping the tempo of your team and reducing the creative freedom of your wingers.
If its any help I have found with a variety of testing and experimenting, crossing styled tactics very hit and miss. Well, a lot more miss.
Im not sure why this is so, perhaps for the reasons you state, but getting the winger to run to the byline and cross it in to produce a goal, in a good tactic that can also defend the inevitable counter-attack when the keeper sometimes catches and quickly throws it out, is tough.
I find the central channels much more productive in terms of passing play.

ur absolutely right manuman. I find I have the same problem. 80% of crosses are blocked by opposition even after the man is beaten. I would bring this up in the GQ forum as SI seem to respond there and I feel this is a real problem with the match engine.

I generally have one winger taking men on and one winger sending in the crosses depending on the ability of them so it balances it out a bit.
If you use barrows on the fullbacks this will help stop the problem of quick counter attacks and i usually have a holding midfielder. I only conceded 13 goals with AC Milan this way.
In terms of passing play i do agree with you that the central route is good for this but knocking the ball out wide can sometimes create the gaps in the defence and you can now and again get the overlap
In FM2006 and possibly 2005 I think the problem was you hardly ever got blocked crosses, ever. I think they adjusted it in the ME for 2007, but now it seems they have moved it too far in the other direction. What REALLY gets my goat is the amount of deep crosses my own fullbacks _block_ from just inside our own half, that run out for a corner for the opposition. You just don't see that irl. It should be going out more often for a throw not running 30-40 metres for a corner.
Cross completion IRL is around 25% for most teams, so I think that the amount of crosses actually ending up to one of your players is good, but IMO more crosses should be made that don't just hit the first defender but rather go all the way out for a throw or ending up in a goal kick.
