How reliable are these. Signed a Goalkeeper from Blackburn called Gunner Nielson who to me looks pretty good. Lots of numbers in the high teens down the left column. Yet whilst signing him the coach recommended not to bother and now suggests to offload him. Thing is he looks good to me??

Depends on what the coaches "judging player potential" stat is. If its high (18 or more I'd say), then you can trust him. Else its not the best of ideas. I usually trust the scouts more tbh. So check what your best scout has to say about him.
