When the FM game screen loads up, click the Load Game folder (not the Load Last Game foler)and it should present you with a choice of games.

I only have one option so I guess that kind of answers that!

Do you think uninstalling the software and re-installing it would work? Would I be able to keep my currently saved game?

The backup should be in

CDocuments and Settings\YOURNAMEHERE\My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\games

If there isn't, then I'm afraid its bye bye for that save. You will have to start a new game and make sure you don't rely on one save again.
