Like many of you, i am a seasoned pro on the FM series. FM07 was superb i thought. I had my own styles, plays, tactics. Taking Wigan to Champion Leagues glory over 6 year, Middlesboro were dominating the Premiership within 4 year etc... we all have our stories.
My point is, why am i finding FM08 so much harder? I have only had 1 successful season (where i haven't been sacked) which was with Sheff Utd winning promotion with a 4-2-4 formation (the only 1 i could find that worked). The formations that have previously worked are now falling short - sometimes understandable as its a different game, but you would have thought the basics are the same.
Maybe i'm not tweaking the tactics for the players i have. I'm finding that half my goals are being disallowed (i think that is a known fault th)
Is anyone else finding that this is the case? Or do you think i really need to wait for the patch to come out as my game is buggered? lol.
Cheers, any constructive ideas will certainly be considered (and maybe some non constructive as well)
I can't say I've found the game harder than FM07, as I've had about the same success/failure rate.
The fundimentals tactically are the same I think, although there are one or two more areas that need attention in-game. I think that the team-talk has a bigger bearing on morale, hence influencing player performances and results.
There are tactics that perhaps don't work as well in FM08, although I'm using formations and tactics I played around with in FM06 & FM07 that with a little tweeking, seem ok.
One or two player positions seem a little nerfed though, such as DMC position. Many complain that even having world class DMC's, they rarely get above a 6 or a 7 rating. This suggests to me that the ratings system over compensates for clearly attacking traits or clearly defensive traits, whilst the poor DMC is piggy in the middle.
