I'm running the first beta patch and was wondering if it's possible to sign players who have been released by their clubs and have plans to retire at the end of the season? It appears I can only sign them as non playing staff at the moment for some reason, which is a shame as there are a few quality players up for grabs. Is this an issue with the full patch?
What I mean is, it's the start of a new season and they have decided to retire at the end of the forthcoming season, so why wouldn't they want to play one more season before they retire?
It is an issue, imo. Either they should retire from playing straight away, or you should be able to offer them or a short-term contract that ends on their retirement date. At the moment, the whole "retiring at the end of the season" status makes absolutely no sense for unattached players.
You could argue that they set an official retirement date, but then end up as free agents and figure there's no point finding another club. They'd remain active players, but effectively retired.
Then again, I really don't think that's what happens in the game. I think it's just a slight oversight.
