OK, from the get go I admit that this is a slightly sketchy idea.

I would like to see the option to be able to alternate text (or indeed items) within a widget (kind of like the news ticker - to create your own 'ticker' for other things).

Basic pseudocode example to illustrate:

</widget>

This would produce a label that alternates between the text "this" "text" "alternates", changing every 5 seconds and fading in and out rather than an abrupt change.

An obvious use would be a date 'ticker'. You could alternate between the day, time and date. If it could be used with graphics too you could alternate between the club logo and competition logo - I think that would look pretty cool. I'm sure if other player stats were avaiable for use you could also make some nice subtitles for player/team profiles (alternate between various player stats goals/av rating/fitness etc or club details like league position/av attendence/stadium etc).

Was thinking that this would allow more information to be shown (and more customisation) in the space available. I know it could look plain nasty if over-used and used badly but I think if used correctly it could be really useful.
