Hi there, as you probably guessed for the title of this post i'm proposing a little change in the editor. What im hoping for in fm2007 is the ability to select a players squad status in the editor which would be carried over into the game when you load it up. For example if you selected INDISPENSIBLE then the player would play every game barring injury and BACKUP payers would only play in emergencies. The reason i'm hoping for this is that currently when I have two players at the same team playing the same position the ditor seems to ignore the reputations I have set them to. For example at Aberdeen(the first team i edit in the Scottish league because alphabetically their first in ther Premier League) I can have Jamie Smith set as an AM/F RC and Darren Mackie the same, now if i give Smith REP-125 NAT REP-120 and WORLD REP-50 and Mackie REP-110 NAT REP-105 and WORLD REP-35 the game seems to still pick Mackie as a FIRST TEAM player and Smith as a SQUAD ROTATION player despite what ive set in the editor which could be easily solved with just one drop down option box in the editor. Also there could be various tick box additions to the editor to allow more realism in game such as a tick box that if selected means the player, or manager, will see out his current contract then look to move rather than sign a new one, as these days a lot of players do this. Does any1 else have options they would like to see in the editor in the next game.

A change in the way the editor works with the DB Post #2
I've read the post, and I think that the answer is no on both counts ('forcing the game to pick a player solely on their reputation, rather than their ability' and 'forcing a player/manager to quit at the end of their contract').
Blah... Reading your post... Pressing the enter DOES help, you know! It also allows me to break it down into points.
Using the indispensible thing... There doesn't seem to be much point. I mean, if you want a player to play every match, then you just don't change him, do you?!
I understand your concerns about the whole 'picking a player based on their reputation, rather than their stats'. Unfortunately, reputation isn't everything, and if your virtual unknown is in their groove and he's knocking in 2 goals a game, would you rather have him or your legendary player who's currently in the middle of a 9 month goal drought??
I'd rather have the virtual unknown any day of the week! After all, goals win games, not reputations.
Next up... Having a tickbox which makes a player leave the club after their contract is completed. Hmmm... Well, you already have the option of offloading the player once their contract expires. Not only that, but having rolling contracts is more realistic as that is how it happens. It isn't realistic however, to say to a player 'here is a one year contract. No more, and no less'.
I know of only one instance when a manager was known to want to stay at the club, and the club wanted him to leave after a certain date (Bobby Robson at Newcastle) - SI actually used him as an example of the only known manager who wanted to stay at a club, when his club did not want him. Turns out that he got sacked anyhow.
The circumstances of requiring an option to set a definite end to a contract simply isn't realistic.
If I've missed your point, then it's your fault for making me read the entire post as a block of text, rather than spacing it out!

What I meant with the Tick Box for not renewing the contract is that IRL players say that they dont want to sign a new contract with a club a la Michael Ballack, Kevin McNaughton and other various players throughout Europe and test the water with the Bosman ruling or the club dont want to give the player a new contract and release him at the end of his current contract, ie Maniche and the thousands of players who havent been offered new contracts at the end of this season.
But in the game players quite happily sign new contracts despite IRL wanting away or not being wanted by their current club.
As for the picking players on reputation part, i'm not meaning that the squad status is set in stone, of course a manager will pick the player who is on form but i'm a bit sick of seeing players who have better stats more reputation and more on form being overlooked for someone who's not as good.
This could also be achieved with a Club Reputation rating rather than Current Rep rating.
It was only an idea but I suppose if you did have the Squad Status option you wouldnt have to fiddle with Dans editor constantly to make the game more realistic.

I can name lots of examples of players signing new contracts when their clubs don't want them.
An example, perhaps the most famous, would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has been on the verge of a transfer so many times, that it's just not funny. And yet, Man Utd keep offering him contracts.
