Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Garden Fork Tactic (5-3-2 with DM Master Stroke!!)

Hi there,

I have really troubled to get to grips with this game and have really been pulling my hair out. I started my umpteenth game with West Ham on Saturday night and was doing kak really , (15th going into Febuary).

The tactic I Was playing was a 4-4-2 diamond formation but i was sick of seeing strikers running through my defence. I had not won for 8 games then I tried a little test which to my amazement turned my last 12 games of season into a pleasure , unbeaten in 12 (with West Ham).

Into my second season I am 6 undefeated and I have just Totally out played Man Utd to win 3-1 with Rooney having no strikes on goal in 90 mins

The Secret To The Tactic

My formation is set up as as a basic looking 5-3-2 With a flat back five , a MR , ML, and a MC all with farrows. But the most important part of the tactic is the Center man of the back five . I play a good DM there ( hayden mullens / Dushler)....

Now the most important part of the tactic.

Before every match see who you think the biggest danger of the strikers is to your team and man mark him with the CD/DM. Since i started doing this i have saw players like Martins , ROONEY , Henry , Johnson all limited to very little action. While the CD/DM of the back 5 is taking care of the danger , the other 2 CDS are there taking care of any other action.

The Tactic has target man ticked but no player is selected as target man, I find that intelegent players will pick out the 'BETTER' target man for the given situation.

The wingers are asked to Run with ball often but no through balls as I find this encourages them to ' Take there man on'.

The tactics contained in the pack are.....

FORKIN AWAY
Tactic for all away matches

FORKIN_HOME AVERAGE
Tactic for average teams when playing at home from Watford To Villa etc

FORKIN_HOME_TOP_TEAM
Tactic when playing top teams at home Chelsea etc

FORKIN DEFAULT
Ow i choose my tactics then i change TEAM instructions before match , mostly depending on above formations..

THE CD/DM THING...

I really think that pulling the DM back into the defence with a farrow , and making him man mark the best striker really does limit the oppositions openings. Like I said I have never faced Rooney and Henry and they not had a shot but doing this little tweak I have now witnessed it.

Anyways take a look and have a try . One last thing keep an eye on the AI as they sometimes pull the striker who your DM/CD is marking into a cm role. If this happens simply make him man mark a different strikerTactic Pack

Only been doing it for about 18 games mate, the only reason I posted it after a short time was because in the past I have always struggled even with teams like Liverpool.

Just loaded up my game for a days session so will report back later . Just beat Tottenham and Berbatov hardly had a sniff in 90 mins and he usually rips me apart.

Just remember to keep an eye on the AI as players like henry and that are sometimes switched into a winger role and this will totally pull your CD/DM out of position. So change who he man marks to another forward.

Ill post some screenies tonight ...Good luck

Just tried this tactic away to arsenal.I have been very successful recently with a 4-3-3 im using, but i thought i would give this a go as i always lose to arsenal. And i was pretty impressed.By DMC (Digard) marked Henry out of the game and he had one header all game. But what i did notice was that teams have lots of long shots against you.And while that is better than having more one on ones, but if you come up against a player with good long shots, you will lose a lot.Sometimes there were 2 players hovering outside the area.I tried to have closing down on always for each central midfielder and that helped a bit, but a slight tweak to the tactic and it may work very well.

well its going good with Bristol Rovers. I took over in november when their manager got sacked and they were 22nd and going nowhere. i took over and signed Duncan Ferguson, Lorenzo Amoruso, Rui Marques and Jermaine McSporran on free transfers and now i'm in febuary and in 6th position. I went unbeaten for the first 10 games but then lost against league leaders MK Dons but havent lost again since. I havent got a DM so play rui marques in the centre defender and he does well. All in All: GREAT TACTIC!!!

Did you finish your season m8? . Is the DM/CD man marking thing still working?. Still Very pleased here with how I can make a class striker not have such a massive impact in a game.

I have noticed this but i also notice that a lot of there long rangers are hurried And are well wide. Don't forget a Way Wide shot is still classed as a 'Shot'.

Did you try it in any other matches ?

I had to go out earlier so am only into December and have had , Ferdinand , Modric , Gabbidon , Johnson , Van Den Borre all get hit with 3-4 month injuries

I also realize that getting Ronaldo (fat brazilian one) for £0 but paying him £74,000 a week Was a shocking error on my behalf.

7th in league at min , and in QF of league cup and going safe in UEFA cup ,but had my ass man , Andy Ritchie goto Sheff Utd as Manager and forgot to get new one for 2 weeks.

Will post some screenies / stats etc at end of season.
Thanks to anyone who tried it

One other thing I forgot. If the AI are playing with 2 up front and they swap there positions during match , make sure you check CD/DM man marking settings noticed sometimes my CD/DM man marks other striker.
