This tactic started out life in many different formations. Basically I was playing in the EPL, and have signed some very good players. Now the quality of the players was such that it would keep me in the league without much effort, but to challenge the big boys it would need a good tactic to outclass them. The players I have now are easily good enough to win the EPL, but without a solid tactic they just couldn’t make that final push.
At first I tried to play a slow passing game, possession football. This was OK against the weaker sides, but against the big guns it just seemed to fall apart.
I have read up on many theories with regards to tactics and formations from all over the scene, and have downloaded near enough every “killer tactic” there is, with limited success. I have always wanted to create my own killer tactic, but have never had the time or patience to do so. After reading many threads on many different forums I have learned that the only way to get long term success with one tactic is to keep tweaking it, a style I am unfamiliar with, as I am one of those who just want to load up a tactic, pick 11 players and sit back and watch. While this approach worked with earlier incarnations of FM, in FM07 this approach just isn’t feasible. After many seasons of trying different versions of the 442, and one version of a 451, I have finally settled on this version. It is not complete by any means, but it’s looking promising so far.
After having limited success with the short, slow game, I thought I’d try the other extreme and go for route one, the long ball. I read a theory on slider apathy by asmodeus, and found this approach interesting. For those who are unsure of this approach, read this thread here: http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...7/m/3632074782
I used this with version 4 of my tactic, still convinced I could succeed with a short passing game. After seeing my tactic picked apart by many teams, I failed to live up to my expected finish of 4th, ultimately finishing the season in 10th. V4 was based on a 451, and while it looked good, and I had some good results with it, I still wasn’t happy with it. And trying to keep all my strikers happy wasn’t easy either! So version 5 was born, based on a 442. Flat back 4, 2 mc’s and 2 AMR/L and 2 up top. This started out life with passing on long, and tempo on quickest. I seemed to have problems conceding goals, even though on paper my back 4 and keeper was world class. So I thought if I could hoof the ball up front whenever it came to me, I would concede fewer goals. I also used the ‘slider apathy’ theory to differentiate my back 4 to my forward 6, in the hope that my defence would work as a unit.
After deciding that the long ball wasn’t working, I then opted for a direct style of play, with a slightly slower tempo. The tempo is still quick, but is kept in line with the passing style.
V5 and V5.0.1 have identical team instructions, but the individual instructions are slightly different. V5.0.2 has the passing style and tempo adjusted in the team instructions, but the individual instructions are about the same. As I mentioned before, the passing style is direct, but I decided to try a different passing style for my forwards, wingers, and one mc(the attack minded one). I put their passing style on short. The thinking behind this was that the defence would clear the ball to the midfield and forwards, who when they got the ball would get it on the floor and create some good chances.
After 16 games with V5.0.2, I have won 11, drawn 2 and lost 3. The most I have conceded in one game with this tactic is 2, including V5 and V5.0.1. These 16 games include 3 carling cup games, all 3 of which I won.
Please do try this tactic out, let me know your thoughts, all feedback is appreciated, and any tweaks you implement to improve this, please let me know. Also let me know how well this works for you, or even if it doesn't!!!
Well it seems my tactic has vanished from fmdownloads! Will try and get it back online sometime this week, and hopefully some of you can try it out and give me some feedback and suggestions for improvement
