It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Playing youth in friendlies?

Hi all,

Really been enjoying this game, real hard but slowly getting there. I've been playing with kv kortrijk in belgium, second division. Got them up to First in one go, struggled the first season up and have now signed many excellent youngsters (17-18) with great PA's to help me within 2 or 3 seasons to really start making a push for the league. I've requested a feeder club, but the board replied they couldn't find any decent ones and don't want to talk about it any more this season!!! So sending my potential stars out on loan isn't in my cards this season, so I came to think what if I arrange weekly friendlies with crappy opponents and play all my youngsters that way, would that count as first team experience? Would really like to know if someone has tried this out, would help me out a lot, otherwise these guys will be losing a year and a chance of completing their potential.

I tried this with my reserve team as there were so few matches - so i added the odd midweek game against non professional teams. It certainly pushed their attributes up (suddenly a lot more green arrows) but i don't know if they're actual ability improved. Still worth a go!

Interesting idea, but it wouldn't come up as first team games, just uncompetative games which is pretty much the same as playing U18 (or whatever the youth league is in Belgium)games.

If they're really that decent, loan listing them should get interest, or you could offer them for loan. Otherwise, you may be forced to push them through into your first team a little quicker than planned a gradually phase out your older or crappier first teamers.

I had the same problem in FM06 with UTA Arad (in 06 Arad didn't have a reserve team or a youth team), and was forced to let a lot of talent leave because I just couldn't accomodate them. Friendlies may help the learn how to play with your senior players, but I can't see them making a huge difference.

That doesn't mean it isn't worth a go.

it is different from them playing competitive game if they were on loan, the same way that if the youngstars were to play in your 1st team. playing in 1st team competitive games would boost the stats increase more, providing theyre given good training.

but not playing them at all is off course worst. a good development for youngsters, and even to keep players fit is to have at least one game a week. playing games are really for mentality stats.

im in EPL, have my reserves to play in friendlies every friday, regardless if they have a game or not that week.
