Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

P O'D is back . Mate, I remember your similar thread about FM06. I'm still using your rule of -2 cos I always try to play south american/possesion style of football (of course my favourite style :cool. It's hard to implement, but I think it's not impossible. I started a new game with PSG and I'm going to test my possesion based tactic properly (going to see a few full matches). It will take a lot of time, but I hope it will be a joy to watch

Sounds like an excellent plan, and while I thought someone might try a rule of negative or something like that, I never thought I'd actually seriously see it implimented. I hope it works, because this could be an awesome defensive/possession tactic.

Couple of quick ones:

1) Why -2? I love the idea of forcing the team to be even more compact, but -2 seems a large gap. Would -1 provide the same coherence without sacrificing so much space?

2) I appreciate you've tried different levels of team, but wouldn't a middling Championship or League 1 side be another good testing ground? Obviously, if it holds up with Southend and Chelsea it should work with Stoke, but there's no guarentees.

Sounds like a well thought out and interesting project.

To get a teams full potential tactically you have to tweak. No tactic works as good as with one team as the other. I have a game with Vauxhall, Liverpool and a Colombian team called Union Magdalena and although the shape is the same (4-4-2 Diamond) the instructions are quite diffrent.

IMHO the most important attributes for this style of football are technique, passing and first touch (a lot of contacts with the ball). I think that even most of the Premiership sides don't have these kind of players. Otherwise it can work easily for example in Brazilian second division. I think that's not about level, iƄ's about players.

Hey, I read some of your ideas for my failing Blackburn side as I noticed your formation fit my team perfectly. I didn't actually download your tactic, just implemented your ideas into my existing tactic as that is what i prefer to do. My performaces have improved a lot and the first game I used it I beat R. Madrid 3-0 at home.

I have noticed increased possesion and a higher number of quality chances. It's just a case of my strikers getting their shooting boots on and then i'll be flying!

So far so good, thanks!
