Following StokedOnCity's tactics (which are based on wwfan's tips), I use 3 different versions of 4-4-2; defensive-balanced-attacking, depending on the difficulty and form of the opponent.
Most of the time I used the balanced formation while the defensive tactic was chosen six or seven times during the season. However, I noticed something strange(?) after my last game;
using this particular tactic I was beaten 4-2, nothing special about it, but was surprised to read at the post-match news that the game was lost because of my inconsistency!
They questioned my decision to change my "usual" 4-4-2 formation to an "untested" 4-4-2 formation! Was it untested? I don't think so... Was it so different, in a way to confuse my players? I don't know...
What do you think about it? Note that the main difference between the balanced and the defensive formation is the mentality and the creative freedom. Most of the other instructions remain the same or they are slightly altered.
In my game, after a long run of poor results with my 4-4-2 system I finally bit the bullet and changed formation. The result: a news item saying that the fans thought I should stop playing my usual 4-5-1 and try out something new.
