Im currently in my 3rd season with vicenza in Serie A. Anyway, the real point is at home i want to play a 442 diamond but i find my AMC has no influence in the game. The diamond is wide, so there is an ML & MR playing. Now even with high creative freedom, free role, forward runs, and playmaker ticked he isn't in the game.
From the match engine it seems that when the ml has the baal, the amc doesnt come close to him or at least drift he just remains in the same place. As there is only 3 in the midfield(ML,MR and AMC) the attack breaks down.
Please, please any help would be great, also i like to give him a barrow to mc spot to close gaps in midfield....so maybe this has an effect.
Don't give him high CF or he will ignore thwo you have instructed him to play. CF is best used sparingly for best results, so don't give him high CF all match just for certain persiods when you might need him to be slightly more infleuential.
Also take the barrow off him, it takes something off his overall game.
I am also playing a 442 diamond, I actually found it better to concentrate play through the middle, not play so wide about normal is enough and if you want, even set him up like a targetman it works a dream
Thanks ill try that. Also should fwd runs be on rarely as www fan suggested so he comes deep and dictates play?
Any way the lowering CF idea seems it may work and playing through middle seems right. But on ur Sheffield tactic ur AMC has lowest notch of high CF, is he effective? I actually played through middle a while back, when following your sheffield united project, and david Dunn was a monster, I had about 7 one on one's with his through balls!

Well because you have the playmaker option ticked he will try to look and dicate play already, so yeah its valuable you take the FRW off.

Nope, well not first season not as much as id like. Since then I use it more sparingly and it works a charm.
I have to say your always really helpful, and im not even a newbie to FM.But the best advice you gave me was to watch the match in full. What i've done recently is try my tactic in reserve matches i control against hard teams like milan to see how effective it is.
This may seem off topic but do u think SI planned on making tactics so in depth and complex to work effectively? I tried Slider apathy and didnt find it was effective for my team, so a simple approach didnt work.
I say this because IRL a new manager needs a few games to find the right tactic and style of play to suit the players.Or someone like curbishely at West Ham has 1 game to instantly make a change.Certain things like closing down seem better given to the team, as common sense wont let a DC close down often.

Any thoughts?
There still not as comlex as SI would like them to be, but we are slowly moving there.
Ok. so the game is geared more toward serious/tactical users.I think the casual user will be more suited towards maybe FM handheld or Championship manager, lol.

Are u a tester for SI, or are u involved in the programming?

Beta tester
As this is a simulation game, it does require a bit more thought and time dedicated to it. FM isn't really a game you can pick up and expect not to put much thought into it.

Very true, its changed a lot since CM, and IMHO for the better.
I asked for help on the diamond because i wanted a solid base(4 at back and DMC) and a good attack for my home games, as I finished 5th last season I want to take teams on.
Cleon have u had success with more attack minded tactics in fm 07, because on your sheffield utd project u still played CA?
What is a bit confusing to me sometimes is what the manual says:
Quote:
Typically mentalities should be balanced across the team, for example, if your team are defensive a majority of your players should be left to a defensive mentaltity
I want to play attacking at home but having the DC's on defensive seems counter-intuitive, as they will play back passes more often. So basically Im saying should everyone in the team be at least on a normal mentality?

U get paid good right? I think from what I remember in computing there are number of beta demo's given out to testers before game is released.
