There seem to be a lot of tactical frameworks, theorems, propositions and systems on this forum, and it's time I added my own. I have used the same tactic since CM2003/2004, and i have invariable been successful. This is not just due to the tactic, I also tend to follow certain strategies with regards to buying players.
My tactis of choice is a simple 4-3-1-2. the formation looks like this
I use the presets for my individual instructions:
Player instructions:
GK-set to goalkeeper preset
DR+DL=set to fullback preset
DC=set to Centre-back preset
MR+ML=set to Winger preset
MC=set to Defensive midfielder preset (if Pirlo, set through balls to often, if Gattuso, set tackling to hard)
AMC=set to attecking midfielder preset
FC= set to Striker (both).
There might be some questions about the wisdom of this formation, but this works very well. in attack, the centrebacks push up to the half-way line while the full backs switch play with the wingers. effectively, I have eight attacking players. In defence, the system is exactly the same: the only players that don't track back are the two forwards, who are waiting for the chance to counter.
The necessity is A) a good AMC and B) a very hard-working DMC.
The Pirlo/Gattuso thing is important: if you have a deep-lying playmaker (ie Pirlo) then follow the Pirlo model; if you have a hardman (ie Gattuso) use that model.
