generally, at home you want from byline, and away you want mixed.
If you've got pacy wingers, byline is a good option. Don't select deep unless its a player with no pace but really accurate passes/crosses, like beckham.

sort of agree with cobalt, however i always have my wingers on mixed crossing to make them less predictable, but yeah if you have a beckham sort of player from deep would be the best option

sorry for double post but if you have the beckham sort of player and have him on cross from deep, you will need someone who is a good header and jumper and OTB up-front(doesn't matter about height as it is only cosmetic at the moment and has no effect on gameplay)
set-up properly the it can be really dangerous

I think a lot of it depends on the player delivering the cross. If you have a winger with good pace, dribbling and skill go for byline...if he is low in those areas deep...average: mixed. Also to add on to a previous post, jumping and heading are less important when you cross from the byline as they are much harder for the opposition to defend, it become more about off the ball (at least that's my theory)...of course it is harder to get byline crosses in.
Bottom line is it is about your squad, tactics and style of play.
