You never know if an actual bail-out of debt was not initiated by a former player. Or maybe they're included in sponsorship money or other income? Just because it's not the super-official news item it doesn't mean that it can't be there. |

i very much doubt any professional footballer really does have the assets to keep any semi pro football club running for a few years, especially since footballers are only 'overpaid' due to their very short career span and they need a retirement fund for all those years ahead

I think one player has done it before, a striker. IIRC he donated £50,000 to help out Gateshead as he started there.

a famous Austrian ex-striker is part-time chairman of a German non-league team and thus pays quite a big part of the yearly expenses, and I know quite a couple of others who helped their teams or ex-teams with either money or help of some kind.

Rek, correct me if i'm wrong, as i have essentially no knowledge of the situation overseas, but in the states well known sporting personalities generally only have to shake a tree to make a ton of money fall out, generally in the form of a cushy+overpaid job given to them by one of their admirers from their playing days. Surely its similar your neck of the woods?
Also, are there any well known players that have gone on the be ultra succesful entrepenuers, George Forman grill style?
