Was the enterprenuer who currently bankrolls Wigan athletic and owns a chain of famous sports shops not an ex-professional football who not only got rich, but brought a football team (I know he's ex-Blackburn, as to if he ever played for Wigan i don't know)
Also a toilet roll factory owner was financually involved in and chairman of his ex-club Man City in the 1990's was he not.

But the ex-Man City player/Chairman brought the aforementioned toilet role business while still a player.
Surely some of the more sensible players have always invested their money in business projects to gain wealth and income when they retire? A danish international goalkeeper rought his first football team about 3 years back, but that is the only example of a still active player buying a club.

Hello. Didn't an often-falling-over not-often-scoring striker donate a big amount to his former club Leicester last season, at the height of their financial problems?

Jug ears donated a little money to Leicester, but I get the impression that we are only including people who exclusively earn their money from playing football and associated merchendising and promotions, not ex-pro's who earn very good money from Walkers crisps or the BBC.
Any Barry Town fans in here? The ex-Gladiator presenter brought his football money into a lowerleague team, and they have since dramatically tumbled.

Oh, he did too, but he was more famous for scoring goals than falling over. I'm thinking of a current star who's very much the reverse of that.
