I am now manager of Margate in a CM03-04 game, and i sent my scout to find youth players. I found that a great many things have changed since CM3 (01-02, btw). And unfortunately to the worst.
He game back with 4(!) candidates, none of which was worth a sh*t. That's just too few, methinks. In Cm3, scouts would come back with around 50 players. And not only that, but the scout would also mention other players that have impressed him, which most of the time turned out to be better than the ones i wanted scouted.
That was a great benefit for LLM games, and it's now gone in CM0304. It also looks like there are less players around, though this could be due to medium database.
Point is, the scouting system has been severely deteriorated, and it's making things quite difficult, especially when you have no funds to pay for your players.
I was finding LLM style quite hard in CM3, but now in CM0304, it's nearly Mission Impossible. What the heck can i do about it? Any ideas?

Been reading my thread in Your Shout, have ya?
Yeah, it's carp on all but max data base. I had the same situation when I asked my scout to go to France, one of my background leagues and he returned naf all.
It goes right against my grain, but I have been using the transfer area but with some big restrictions. I'm only allowed to look there in between season, and only search for youth that have been released in my own foregorund country. Not happy about it at all, but it's what I am left with.
Horror, horrors, but I am also looking at the famous players "interested" screen, and scouting potential players from there.
I punish myself after a session of CM with a good self beating with my birch, soaked overnight in saltwater. Beats the hell out of three Hail Mary's.

What's Your Shout? You got a link to that? Sounds interesting.
Anyway, it seems like the SWYCT and SYB guidelines are too hard to follow in CM03-04. The forum header is exactly what it should be, but it's obvious that it's based on Cm3 gameplay (that is, higher speed, more players, better scouting system- more money available, come to think of it..).
I 'm now finding the two guidelines above very hard to stick to.

Not bad. Don't you think that playing LLM with a smaller scope of players and oppostunites heightens the challange that is supposed to come?
Of course, we all talk about the realism of the game and the what nots that the latest installation of CM brings to LLM. Unless some of us really have experienced seeing how an LLM club is run, we do not really know what goes on behind the scenes.
Other than really running on a Huge database, I don't see another to the problem. Keep in mind that the abilities of your scout is really important.

As I said to Tapian when I was speaking to him, with CM3 your scouts could find tons of players, but is that realistic. In the real world I wouldn't think that a scout could recommend with a good judgement as well that amount of players in a space of about a month or 3 weeks.
I think there is a problem with Cm 03-04 with scouting. I think it needs to be tweaked a little so we can have some news announcements, but not really the amount of players they turn up.
Saying that, I wouldn't mind if they gave me a couple of gems right now. |

Axl...
There is difference between realism and what your scouts return to you. I 've been playing in NIR and didn't get a single GK recommended by my scouts until the very last season (3rd) That is the thing that makes game impossible, not realistic.

We could go on all day about RL "realism" and LLM "realism" and still be miles apart.
As I said in the other place, the days of "traditional" multi-nation LLM games are gone, the new CM4 game engine makes that impossible on Large Database...and you've got to play large database to work your scouts like in a "traditional" LLM game.
I believe this is where we'll see a split develop, very rapidly, between "single-nation" LLaMas and "multi-nation" LLaMas.
I've already gone down the road of playing Poofland only on large database, Taips is going the other way on smaller DB's.
Neither is right, neither is wrong, both will develop and I hope they're compatible in LLM |

If it is less than a bakers dozen on average on a medium, I'd hate to imagine how many get found on a small DB. It's not like they are not there. Players get released all the time, but it seems the scout is blind to the fact that they are available.
iaj, just curious. How many players is your scout returning on a large DB?

I have begun looking at the players from the nationality of my team and sending the scouts after them for an assesment, either by age or randomly clicking scout (actually could be a good strategy, as it would be the equivalent of someone suggesting a player to you that you dont know or someone writing to you requesting a trial e.t.c. Mind you, with fog of war even if you do look at the stats you have to scout them trial them.
Oh and another thing....
Why do scouts waste my valuable time telling me that "Scout Y does not consider player X would add depth to the squad" when all i've done is send them to do a general scout around.

Have you been "find"ing players by nationality, or scouting those countries?
Pretty dubious either way.
