bleh, I always like the cups...well, except when I lose in the 1st round...in which case they're obviosuly just a distraction from the league and I of course deliberately extracated myself from the cup |

It happend in *real* life to Brechin City, they got rangers Away when they were in the 3rd and they are now in the 1st division, I think they got about 500k too.

Nope, we didn’t get anything near that amount unfortunately because Rangers seasontickets didn’t include that game and not that many Gers fans wanted to pay £25-30 to see us play them off the park.
If they had dropped the home fans ticket price down to about £10-15 they would have got a big attendance but in the end there was around 25,000, about 5,000 of us from Brechin. I’m pretty sure it was Rangers lowest attendance for a long time.
And we could have won the game if it wasn’t for their German keeper. The ground looked deserted, a bit like Murryfield will next season when Hearts hold their 'home' games there

I scored somewhere around 3M Euros in gate receipts in the first round of the CL at AC Milan. That was about 4 years worth of income for the club in one hit, so the score was somewhat irrelevant.
As for domestic cups, I haven't noticed much of a windfall. But then I haven't played in the English leagues for a long time, and I think the money's better there.

I've mixed opinions with the Cup,
Whilst I've never gone beyond the 4th round of the FA cup (Or SFA cup for that matter) I do find if your not likely to get promotion that season or are struggling with debt, it is good to get an away cup draw to a popular team. With the 400k I got with a forth round away tie with Everton, I managed to improve the clubs fiscal position to allow the board to double my wage budget and this intern lead to a team being assembled that gained promotion the next season and allowed me to invest in my under 19 squad. Without this cup injection, we would have run at a loss that season and I would have had to cull players rather than sign new ones.

I think that cup runs only pays off if you are playing in one of the BIG countries. Because when I played in NI, the cup match towards higher placed teams braught me 2K GBP max.
And I bet, that any other coutnry with small stadiums has this.
