Second, I loved how I signed a player on a free from Man Utd and he said he was delighted to be signing for a team he has supported since he was a boy (nice touch, SI  )

I just had case of the opposite last night. My star player at Stevenage (worth more than the rest of the team put together), who was one of my original players when Frank handed me the assignment, has just run off and left his "favoured team".
I'm several years in, and his third or fourth contract was expiring. He doesn't want to sign a new one until late in the season. That's OK, I think, we might scrape the playoffs and since we're his favourite club he ought to sign after that. A few weeks from the end of the season he comes to me cap-in-hand. I offer him the absolute best the club will let me as he really is a star player. His agent (who I don't remember appearing in previous renegotiations) wants twice that. I'm forced to leave him unsigned. We duly beat Brentford in the playoff final. He signs for Brentford two weeks later for less than I originally offered him
So, despite us being his favoured club , he sods off to a lower division team for less money. He didn't even use the "new challenge" excuse.
Apologies for the rant, but I feel better for getting that off my chest
