Not xure when it happened, but people used to ignore the player tipping message and it got so annoying, that player naming was introduced.

Since the year dot people always ignore the forums rules, reading rules is way to much to ask of some of the posters here,'post and be damned' seems to be the motto.

Still seems a bit of a silly rule though I'm sure most people with half a brain can tell teh difference between someone posting something like 'I just signed Onesimo he scored 30 goals a season in the conference' and 'I hate Ronaldo he just scored a hat-trick against me in a CL qualifier'. I often wonder what Iajafer and Wocko do when Fergie’s on the telly saying how great his young portugesse winger is... I can imagine them sat at home with their fingers in their ears going “la la la la la la la I’m not listening to you”.

Tactics, well there's the zealot approach which is no help at all but I've never been worried about hearing peoples views on the relative merits of pressing/no pressing, and man v's zonal marking. Obviously anyone who d/l's tactics is a muppet and the usual people who use tactics forums are prolly the hardcore computer gamer type looking to exploit loopholes in the game engine rather than looking at tactics as a football fan and designing them to work in a coherant realistic pattern of team play or exploiting the individual abilities of your players. That's the approach I try to take but there is a thin line once you realise that certain options are ALWAYS more effective than other options. Whether you take advantage of that knowledge is a tricky one as that is alot of what sets apart an experienced player from a rookie. Personally I like to win rather than lose but always try different tactics periodically to keep the game challenging as winning without a struggle is very :dusty:

Sadly so. It would be healthy to be able to talk about things properly like the grown ups that most of us are, but unfortunately there are to many (to paraphrase Ivor Biggun) winkers about.

I agree with both of you, ofcourse. It would be nice if we didn't have to hide behind our finger, when it comes to naming players.

I believe though that the rule has a reason for existing, and as long as it is in the header, i expect everyone to abide to it, just to set the example for mewer members.

It's the "anyone with half a brain" bit where your argument falls down, unfortunately

It definetly comes down to the second post rule. I seem to recall that some of our newcomers made good second posts and are now regulars who contribute to the camaraderie(sp?) of the board.

Just earned a disturbed look from my colleague, but picturing this made me laugh out loud.

I do agree that the 0-tolerance rule seems a little over the top but it's not that hard to get used to and it's just a convenient policy for the clean-up squad. The thing I personally dislike most is the fingerpointing and eyerolling from certain wannabe mods. It's bad enough someone has to edit out all the names, let's at least let them do it quietly.

Hey, you scrumpy-guzzling t*osspot! You've got a short memory, eh?

It was me who always stated that no harm would be done naming well-known players and regens, and it was me who was shot down in flames for saying it. I also was the principle proponent of being able to name a default tactic when updating on your current game.

Time and tide changes the coastline, though, and the LLMers as were, and the LLaMas as are, soon found out that the naming of players and tactics brought a deluge of A-holes who thought that's what the Forum was for.

The Rules and Guidelines were gradually changed in order to stop this happening, as was the ban on updates.

I'll happily take the flack for anything I'm responsible for, like SWYCT or the Find Function/Transfer Screen "ban", but I where I don't make, or in some instances agree with, the rules I certainly enforce them

Do you actually still play CM, btw?
