Default Wages and Signing Bonuses - Needs Revisiting

Players who are considering contract offers really do need to consider the economic value of the entire package as a whole.

I just experienced a completely absurd result. As York, I'm not able to offer much in terms of wages. However, I managed to accumulate a nice ability to dole out bonuses due to reaching the 4th round of the FA Cup. A player that I wanted very much asked for 1,900 per week for 3 years, no signing bonus. I could only offer 1,300. So, I went ahead and offered him 1,300 plus 40,000 as a signing bonus. That's 8,800 more than the value of the contract offer he requested.

And what makes it even worse, is that I was offering that money upfront, making it even better. This is an absurd result. Can't imagine it would be that hard to fix, either.

Eeek! Typo. He only wanted a one year contract. Sorry!

*the math does work out - really!

^^ true, i find the same thing happens to me too, and in real life would players ask for a 2-3m signing on bonus? seems a bit greedy lol. heres your 80k a week contract, player replies: "thats not good enough, i want 3m now, in my pocket"

i have see similar problems. but mine is when u offer a player a contract and he see's himself as a rotational or back up and therefore wants a huge appreance bonus. But i want him as a firt team player and offer more as the wage but the player will not substitue the higher wage for less appreance bonus.

There's no need to offer him the signing on fee if he doesn't ask for one. You can also offer 10-15% less than what he requested. They'd usually accept it. Or you can substitute some weekly wage with goal bonus.
For example, if a defender ask for 10k a week and without goal bonus, you can offer him 8k a week with 1k goal bonus. I usually have no problem extending their contracts this way. Similarly for strikers, you can add more goal bonus and cut down the basic wage. This could somehow motivate them to score.

The only case I'd add signing fee is when they ask for wage that exceed the cap, especially for staffs. (Ass man salary cap is 17.75k, while he asked for 22k)
