I think it is easy enough to alter then attribute colours as it is.
If it were available in preferences then it would still need to be a RGB value. Any user that understands this would surely be able to open a well documented XML file and change the values in there.

It's technically possible, but it's not something we're going to do.
The colours for things like this are set in the fm colours.xml file to make it easier for people making skins.
I know it is easy to change the attribute colours using the xml files but still the Atrribute Highligter software takes a lot of attention because it is more practical. Also, most users don't know anything about xml files.
Isn't it possible that these settings stay in the xml files for skin makers but also can be changed through the ingame GUI? I always use my own color settings(for attributes only), it doesn't matter whichever skin I use.
It doesn't make sense though, as these would override the colours set in custom skins. So for example, if you used the Cappuccino skin you would have to change the attribute colours in the preferences to suit that skin.
I don't change the attribute colours to suit the skins I use, I change them to my preferred colours every time I load a new skin. For example;
1-5 red; 6-10 white; 11-15 yellow; 16-20 green. It doesn't matter which skin I use, I always use these settings; so overriding the colours set in custom skins would be very useful imo.
