Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Porthmadog Training & Tactics

So i have started a league and random stuff which gave me Welsh Premier League relegation hopefulls [ha!] Porthmadog. So i decided to have a think about the tactics and training of the team. Since it is the first time i am really actually wanting to play the game for more than 10 minutes, i am deciding to do it the correct way. So here is my set up, thus far...

Tactics...

I am currently going for the old 4-5-1 with slight modification. Solid back four as is required at the bottom end of the scale. Midfield three, strong in the centre, two Attacking midfielders on the right and left flanks with a lone Striker. Not selected players for positions yet, going to be making choices over pre-season, but the team instructions look something like this...

Normal Mentality
Normal Creative Control [? - forgot what its called]
Width Wide
Closing Down Often
Tight Marking
Counter Attack
Normal Tackling

Got some instructions ready for my players, my inspiration for this formation came from a previous game with Newcastle United where this formation worked a peach after some crappy formations.

Training...

I have broke down the training regimes into Goalkeeper, Full Back, Centre Half, Wingers, Midfield, DMS, AMS, Forwards and Injured. Basicly the injured option has everything except goalkeeping on Light.

Everything else has modified training levels and during the pre-season the work load is set to Heavy. Come season time i am going to modify this so it goes back to Medium.

So now comes the reason behind this babble. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to my set up? Has anyone been this team before and tried a different formation?

Let me know, all inspiration is accepted.

I highly suggest you cut down on creative freedom. At such level, it's better to restrict it as much as you can.

I also wouldn't want the whole team to close down heavily, especially the central defenders, or they're gonna get caught out of position a lot.

I used the tactics i set out in my first friendly against a non-league side and miserablly lost 2-0, however i have cut down the creative freedom to Little and also cut down the back four to Mixed closing down, on the borderline of rarely, i am a few days from my next friendly so lets see what i can do. Any other advice?
