It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

It says in the hints in the game that changing your tactic all the time will confuse the players and shouldnt be done but do people do this

I stick to 4-4-2 but have at times wondered if i should have maybe five or six different tactics set up for depending on whom i'm playing but then it could mean that each game we play a different way and this is against what the hints say.

Anyone else change tactics all the time and does (will it work)

I've never noticed changing tactics mattering too much.

I've done it in all other versions and had nothing but mass success.

Though saying that I started doing that with this one but during it I think I found my teams "Perfect Playing style" Formation, they play amazing every game and it easily beats teams 2 divisions higher (With Home Advantage ^_^) I think I just got lucky with that find.

In closing I've never ever found changing them lots matters, in fact I've found the opposite, as I find it means other teams can't prepare for you (Not that they EVER really change anything XD)

Before I found the "Formation" I got a weekly notice of "Tincker Man Strikes Again" and other things like that telling me how clever I was to always keep opponents guessing and how well it was working, lol.

5 or 6 different tactics are IMO too many and will confuse the players. I have always used 3 with a home attacking tactic, a tighter defensive away one and a defending a lead one which I have always found to be sufficient. I do change between them during a game however depending on the result and how the game is going.

i find keeping the same formation, but having 2 or 3 versions of the tactic, with slider tweaks for different situations (e.g chasing lead, defending lead etc.) works well

I've four different tactics which I use in different situations. The hints and tips also campaign that you should play different tactics home and away. This I do. I also play variations against stronger opponents. This works to much success. I do find though that a tactic takes a few games to become more effective. The advice there is something along the lines of changing your tactic and formation each game until you get a result isn't the right way to go about it.

Change tactics: all the time, usually every 30 minutes or so.

Change formations: hardly ever.

There is a massive difference between one and the other which you have to first understand.

Obviously, I'm not going to play very attacking long ball one minute and then some weird defensive short passing, quick tempo game the next. That's confusing. But you have to change your approach to suit the team you're playing against.

4-4-2 is not a tactic. It's a formation.

I very rarely change tactics.

There are so many other factors that will riddle a soundly set up system with errors- morale and team blend are issues to consider before readdressing your tactics in my opinion.

Personally I use one tactic and have great success but it's annoying that the AI can change from 442 to 3322 to 451 to 424 within the space of a half as they rip you off by yet again coming from 2-0 down.

It does seem to be one rule for the AI and one rule for the mortals.
Feels like that sometimes.

Usually, though, we have the advantage of being able to split our individual mentalities which means we can build a pretty good basic 4-4-2. From there, we can usually adapt to most circumstances without the need to play Matty Holland at centre back (I've seen it done ).
