"stops play" means that the defender likes to put the ball out of play, i.e. is likely to kick the ball out of bounds or conceed a corner to stop an attacker.
"dwells on ball" is not a good characteristic. It means it takes the player a long time to decide to either run or who to pass the ball to. A team that closes down a lot, may frequently take the ball of an opponet who dwells on the ball.
Yup, I am sure. Gets crowd going is useful, particularly for home matches. The more supportive the crowd is the better your team morale and potentially the better the team performance.

WRONG. Stops play: Slow down the play. Stop the ball, look around and take time to decide which is the better option.
hmm im going to test this..use the fm editor and give my dmc "stops play" and see how it works.
I have a feeling it makes him slow down tempo - he hold on ball and let other players get into positions etc...

That is what I think it means - like a Claude Makalele type player. Someone who'll sit, read the game, intercept, the make a decision about passing the ball on.
