It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Some perspective and less complaining people

I have a serious issue with some of the people that complain about the game in this forum (btw – this will relate to tactics eventually I promise so don’t worry). I can see an argument for people who say they are not as tactically astute as some of the more experienced and skilled players on this forum but lets just get a little bit of perspective….

I am by no means the most skilled player of this game but do ok varying between a fair amount of success and periods of struggle. This usually depends on how much luck I have with injuries etc. The trouble with certain people (and I mean no offence) is that they want to win practically every game and get consecutive promotions, which was quite easy to achieve in the old games. This may sound harsh but if you want that, go back to playing the old Championship Manager series, when you could play one formation (mine was the 4-1-3-2, classic lol) and win almost every week with a reasonable to average set of players….

I believe SI have done a fine job with FM 07 in making it a realistic football management experience. The fact that I have to work at my systems and build my squad to gain any success is a very satisfying gaming experience for me, as it makes any major achievement I have feel like it has been earned. People also forget that the more prominent members of this forum go to great lengths of detail to assist other players in terms of tactics and ways of playing the game, so they do understand your plight. They had to learn somewhere as well….

Any comments about this game not being realistic are just idiotic. Football is a difficult game to win at professional level. You have high quality players and managers wanting to win as much as you so yes it is realistic!!!

Finally back to what this forum is truly about TACTICS. I hope you will all forgive me for going into more detail about complaints than tactics but my only advice to less successful players is the following, I have the most success when:

1.I keep the tactics as simple but as creative as possible.
2.Decide on a system you like and stick to it (tinker now and again to suit)
3.Don’t play crazy formations unless you have truly class players (e.g. 3-3-2-2 lol) or any of that rubbish. 4-4-2 is good enough for me.
4.Individual mentalities count for a lot so do not ignore them.
5.Don’t do opposites (e.g. playing with a lot of width when you adopt short passing – the passes won’t reach the target.
6.Don’t panic when you go behind, stick with your beliefs.
7.and finally – enjoy the game! Play it for the love of football and nothing else!

To be honest, most of what you said was true. People do come on here looking for a tactic that will win them games, me included, and i forget when i first picked up this game i played with coventry, with a simple tampered 4-4-2 and got them promotion without any good players at my disposal.

But in reality, people will still come here doing exactly what you are angry about, and nobody will care less about what you said. Even though it's valid, you're not going to change many here. But it's pursuaded me to create another tactic.

i have to agree, whats the point of spending loads of money on a game then cheating to win it, waste of money, i use this site for help with tatics and training but i always just read advive and then try my own tatics on the advice ive read.

Agree with the majority of your post and especially it's principle, but not this point. I personally find width very effective with short passing. But then, there are so many ways to play this game, which is why there are so many discussions...

Agree with most of what you say and yeah keeping it simple is by far my favourite tactic in this game

Most of the things people say here are unfortunately idiotic with regards to realism but I think we all know a few absurd things happening ingame that we worry about sometimes.

Ever since CM/Fm got harder and harder, I have learn incredibly a lot from when I started only watching football. So, from my stand point, as football is one of my passion (thanks to the legendary Roberto Baggio and Eric Cantona), Football Manager is not a game at all. It is a tool to train myself into getting to know in depth of the game.

"Realism" is subjective- we all have differing views on football.

Yes I must step back a little and admit that everyone is entitled to interpret football and they way to play the game in their own way, so to say comments about lack of realism are idiotic was probably just my passion for the game coming out in a defensive way. Apologies if this offended. I do think though that people like that cannot see the wood for the trees and need to spend more time trying to enjoy the game and less time throwing their rattle out of the pram every time they dont win. I suppose what bothers me most is this 'I have to win every game' mentality that some people have.

At the end of the day unless you are Roger Federer you will very rarely win nearly every time you do something, thats life! The most intelligent people who play the game take positives from defeats and learn from their mistakes.

By the way while im here does anyone have any tips for training positions in general because its an area im not having the greatest success at the moment.
