I have been trying to maintain the tactic consistency with Milan by using the 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-1-3-1-1 (using it with one striker), but there's seem no luck. First season, I lost Euro Supercup to Seville, and World Club Cup to Boca, lost in Semi Final against Roma in Coppa Italia, finished 4th in Seria A, out of CL semifinal against MU (lost 7-1 agg). My players often "feel the club is underachieving", or feel "the club is not playing to its potential". I had to hold players meeting in 1st half of the season and during the poor running before season ended.
I try to stick with existing squad (except Zaccardo from Parlermo, and Squillaci, Benzema from Lyon). My XI often are
Dida,
Oddo, Nesta, Squillaci/Maldini, Kaladze
Pirlo
Ambrosini/Seedorf, Gattuso/Gourcuff
Kaka
Inzaghi/Benzema, Gilardino/Ronaldo/Pato
I mean by finishing 4th, I struggled big time. I rarely won with big margin. Always in the 6th-7th place, I only got to 4th place before the last match, and about 40pts behind league champions, Inter. And FYI, Inter seem to be a super team in FM08, they finished 1st place without losing a match, only drawn 4, more than 100pts when season ended. They always win with big margins.
In FM07, with this same formation and tactic, I finish 2nd (without mentionning that Milan had 8pts deduction in 06-07) only few points behind champions, in this 08 version, this tactic does not seem to work well anymore.
I read several threads around here and find that there're a lot who'd like to change tactic/formation depending on oppositions, but I prefer sticking to one formation and imposing my tactic on my opponents. I use preset setting for individual position, for team last notch of short tempo, last notch of short passing, close down 1 notch before whole pitch, defensive line deep/offside trap, tight marking. Anyone has an idea how to tweak the formation to be more effective? I'd really appreciate !
i finished only 4 in first season with Milan too.But from the second season i have dominated big time Seria A. I have used a diamond and change rarely tempo, passing and other little things. The problem is that your squad is to old. Sell what you can except Kaka,Pato,Pirlo and buy some players from this list:
Gk-Try and buy Akinfeev or Ustari
Dl-Marcelo or Traore
Dr-Rafinha ,de silvestri or Alves
Cb-Barzagli,Richards,Pique,Garay
Amr and Aml -M.Fernandes,Silva,Menez
Sc-Aguero,Pandev,Martins,Fred
You keep the diamond as MCs or you put two of them to both flanks? I prefer keeping the diamond small and set Width to wide if the pitch size is changed.
Maybe you're right but I didn't think the problem came from age. I finished matches almost always on the superior side, except the score
The only matches I was outrun are the ones against M.U. During the season, I managed to win against Roma, Juve, both home and away, but lost against Inter both times. The thing is that the matches I lost are often those I should have won (as least the match stat show that), and alway against small teams like Catania, Torino,...
The thing is that I feel my attackers could not find space when they are in the area. They often end up with long shots (which rarely scored).
IMO, in 08 version, Gourcuff's stats are pretty good. I use him more often than Seedorf and Ambrosini. The flat 4 defence, with Barzagli, Nesta, Squillaci, Collocini for DC positions, Oddo, Zaccardo for DR, Manuel Pasqual/Kaladze for DL, I managed to get them play pretty well. Their rating often 7 at least.
On the contrary, the MCs seem to be my problems. They often have 6 rating at halftime, even Kaka. I can't get the diamond work like it should. That's where my strikers didn't have much assist from, they often managed to score from some random situation.
About the squad, I replaced most and keep only Dida, Gattuso, Oddo, Pirlo, Kaka in my XI. Ambrosini, Seedorf, Kaladze, Gourcuff are my backup. I try to sell Simic, Bonera, Brocchi,... however, no one wants them :p
I want to get rid of Ronaldo but he scores a lot after returning from injury
Pato is underrated, comparing to other youngsters like Breno. Hope that will change in Febuary patch.
He is the best player in Milan (after Kaka and Pirlo). Never in any of my Milan games (and there was a lot of them) he had lower than 7.60 average rating.
Get yourself a good SC.....I always go for Toni.
...and not trying to push my tactic but I did create a great tactic that was made especially for AC. , and it is here somewhere
I totally agree with you about Seedorf, but he had a fairly poor run of form to a level that fans spoke person had to file complaint :p Which made me rest him and put either Ambrosini or Gourcuff to his position.
In my game, I often put Seedorf on the left of the diamond. He should play well in the position, IMO. I kept him until 2010 when I was playing FM07.
I can see in in the picture that you play with 4-3-2-1 with AMs being wingers? I don't prefer using wingers though. I'd like a good center possession from the midfielders. The flanks, I'd let the FB do their work.
To be added: Seedorf had also a run of poor form in my Milan take2.
You have any idea to make him play better? I tried putting him upfront with Kaka to form the triangle with the sole Striker but the result is not very good so far.
