Good point.

You can only scout leagues that are active in the game you are running, which as I am only running one nation, fits the bill nicely.

In real life, a manager who swaps nations would still retain player knowledge and a shortlist from his previous job e.g. Celtic signed a lot of English based players after employing their current manager.

Personally, I don't like the use of Player Search.

I'm in two minds if having the Ass Man filtering out unrealistic targets justifies it.

However, if you're happy with the idea, it's right for you.

I can go along with not using the player search even with assistant manager filter set.

Currently there is no temptation as I have no transfer funds/wage budget.

Once again, in real life, even if you had the Old Trafford hot seat and a transfer deadline approaching, you would not invest in players without a full medical history and an experts opinion on their suitability (physically and temperamentally) for the league you were competing in.

I can recall a few players whose transfers have been cancelled/postponed due to an injury or medical history.

I think if you scout the players properly, you'll be okay.

Not my style of playing, but I am definately a zealot.

I discussed this with Jon earlier and I'm not at ease with it, LLM-wise.

Jon said that he set a scout to scout the Argie 1st Division, and he came back with 250 recommendations in a very short time. I reckon that the game has "getting to know the teams you'll play against" covered with "Scout next Opposition" and that setting one scout to look over 20-odd other teams in a short time is unrealistic.

Arguments both ways, neither right, neither wrong in my humble, but definitely as grey as the proverbial Kodak grey-scale on an elephant's arse on a rainy day in Manchester.

Not recommendations Ian... 250 players in the list ranging from 0 stars to 5 stars... as PAFC said, you don't get news messages about these players. You have to go to the scout screen and sort/filter to find what you want.

It's almost like rough notes... but it should have taken half the season to amass a list that long, not 2-3 weeks.

When I tried it as a test, I didn't get any recommendations from the scouts. I only got ratings for all the players.

I then scouted the players I wanted.

As it turned out, my scout on an England search recommended some better players

Then he puts them into his jockmodbloke supertactic and wins in spite of their crapness

I thought when you scout a division the scout actually picks games to watch and only ranks the players he sees in those matches. Surely 250 players are too many in such a short time.

I somewhat like the idea but it looks like it hasn't been implemented in a realistic fashion. Ideally the scout's ranking of these players would also be very vague and pretty off base if they're based on just one match and only if he watches players many times over the course of a season his judgment should be trusted. But since there is no history of which matches he watched this is rather pointless.

Maybe I'll raise these issues in the FM Forum and hope they're going to improve this feature. It's a nice touch but not realistic as of now.
