LLM regulars don't discuss their tactics with anyone. We succeed and fail using our own mettle - even in online games.
Tactics you do on your own, use whatever knowledge you think is realistic. This doesn't ensure you'll be using LLM Ethics, but it stops you becoming more interested in rules than the game itself.
Players, use your scouts. If they find players you know all good and well, if they find guys you've never heard of, great stuff too.
Where it becomes dodgy is where you sign players your scout or coaches say are crap just because you've seen them in a previous game - remember the majority of LL players' stats are random, good in one game, crap in another.
What you don't do is sign players based on another guy's recommendation. (Friend, GPG bod, etc.)
All will become clear as you read the Guidelines and play the game.
