what's so complicated? below the regionals there are 10 leagues, in 6 leagues there's direct promotion for the first placed team, and in 4 leagues there's playoffs (north and north/east have one spot together, so the first placed teams of those leagues play against each other in 2 legs).

Just out of interest, how is the Conference North/South being made up?
For instance, is it going to be like the FA cup draws where Walsall is the furthest north southern club (which would put Wolves for example in the North)
And if that is the case, it appears that the Doc Martyns league is very southern bias, yet the other two feeder leagues have a better mix geographically.
And is it just the top 2/3rds of teams from the 3 feeder premier divisions that qualify or does it get more tricky? Does what would happen if a club such as Forest Green or Nuneaton (midlands) go into the northern leagues to make up initial numbers, get promoted to the conference and then get relegated to the southern division?

Hang on, just got this bunf from a google search
"This would open up a whole host of new clubs to visit and teams to play. However, the division between north and south sections is drawn roughly with a line from Cambridge to Worcester which leaves some clubs very much out on a limb"
This place the following teams in Limbo (from top 3 divisions below conference)
Worcester City
Cambridge City
Bedford Town
Kettering Town
(based on a distance of less than 5 miles north or south of this line)

Below this level, Banbury Town, Redditch Town, Evesham United and Rugby United

The top 13 sides from the three feeder leagues qualify (though there are playoffs below)

I would be interested into know what will happen to the four main clubs, where they will/would be put.
Of course if this line is not straight (a curved or wiggly line) then it makes the situation even worse.

You've already stated the problem in your breakdown of the leagues.
You've put Worcester in the C-North, yet included Kettering who are geographically further north in the C-South.
See the problem, depends on the line trejectory.
even if the line is drawn to include Kettering South and Worcester north, the line runs through corners of Birmingham and Coventry.
The only 'logical' reason to have the split where you have placed it is because it runs slap bang through Watford Gap Services.

I've not placed it anywhere.

It seems silly to try placing the teams until we know who has qualified. Some teams are likely to change between North and South from one season to the next.

If all three teams relegated from the Conference are northern teams I can't see that they will allow the North & South divisions to become different sizes. The southernmost North teams would shift into the South division.

That's plain idiocy though, isn't it? It's not that far-fetched to have three northern teams relegated. And i can't imagine what sort of challenge the FA expects them to show if they keep jumping from one division to another every season.

So you are suggesting that [extreme example];

Conference South shrinks to become a division of 7 teams, Conference North grows to 37 teams

Is an allowable and desirable situation?
